According to reporting by Forbes, a 2023 survey of 1,000 U.S. adults found that nearly two-thirds (62%) feel annual pressure to set a new year’s resolution. The percentage of women feeling pressure is slightly higher than men (64% vs. 60%).
Fitness is an often-cited priority (by 48%). Slightly more than a one-third (36%) of individuals making resolutions focus on improved mental health. More than half (55%) said physical and mental health are of equal importance. Improved finances rank highly, too – for 38%. Weight loss and an improved diet were both goals topping thirty percent.
On average, though, many fall short of their goals – and they do it fairly quickly. One percent last less than a month. Eight percent last a single month. About a quarter (22%) make it two months, 22% last three months, and just 13% last four months. Six percent are still on target more than a year later.
